I’ve received many requests to allow children to attend our events. And also have had many suggestions to offer a retreat just for kids. I would love to take Abby to a place where we could take a class together -- that wonderful bonding time with a child. Something really creative instead of just attending a movie or a theme park. With that in mind, we have developed the first mixed media art retreat for adults and children. Abigail’s Art Retreatwill be held in Portland, at the Embassy, Feb 14-16, 2009. The retreat is open to artistic and creative children when accompanied by an adult. It is NOT a camp – it IS an opportunity to enhance a creative experience with a parent and a child. The classes will be taught by Art & Soul instructors and will be of that caliber. We will accept ages from 6-14 and will offer both all day and 3 hour classes. Adults can attend without a child with the understanding that there will be kids in the classes! The Embassy Suites is going to prepare kid friendly meals for us and we will have a pool party plus some other fun things in the evenings. All the info will be on the website July 1. …… I’m excited about this new addition to Art & Soul!
Abby & Jan taking Tracie & Marylin Huskamp's class
Glenny this is music to my ears! I have a very artistic 13 year old who has been asking to attend large art venues with me for years now! She comes and helps me teach locally and would love something like this! I would be REALLY interested in teaching 1 day and taking classes with my Jules the others. What do I need to do to apply to teach? I have volunteered as the "Art Mom" at my kids middle school for 5 years now and they always love when I come in with special projects! I would loce to teach a class on handmade/stitched valentines (since they seem to love that best and the retreat is in February). I look forward to hearing back from you!
Musings on Art, Love, Family and Friends from the founder of Art and Soul Retreat.
Welcome to my realm!! Please join me in my musings and meanderings on art, love and friendship as I work to bring together a group of fabulous artists and wonderful students to create Art and Soul Retreats.
The musings of an Art and Soul Student
Dear Glenny of Art and Soul Retreat,
I am an educator in Newport News, Va. But for several days in May I went on a creative journey. Here are the things I discovered: 1. Kindness, friendship, connections, and community 2. Diamond glaze (can you buy it by the gallon?) 3. I am compelled to create & there are others that feel that way too 4. Cardboard cones with ribbons and stuff glued to them sounds really weird but look really cool. 5. Soldering isnt so scary! And when Sally Jean (and Mr. Sally Jean) are teaching you how to solder, its just too awesome for words! 6. Wings on stamps (and perhaps a set of my own) 7. Collage with Traci Bautista is fast and fun. 8. Liquid water color spray stains your hands for at least three days (and your wedding band makes a nice stencil on those stained hands). 9. People can and do live their own authentic, artistic lives and for three days I did too. 10. I love brightly colored hair (Im thinking aqua may just cover my gray better than the brown dye does.) 11. Having hands covered in paint and glue makes people wonder what the hell youve been doing. 12. I definitely want that tattoo Ive been thinking about. 13. I would gladly trade all my 40% Michaels coupons to have a store like Collage in my town. 14. Making yourself step out of your comfort zone to try new things leads to wonderful experiences. 15. Im jealous of people who get to be creative for a living. 16. How to drill a shell and beach glassoh & etch copperand bead it all together for an awesome bracelet my friends covet. 17. Being able to say something like So do you make ATCs? and not have people say Whats that? is priceless. 18. Sharing is good (Okay original credit for that one goes to my mom, but it never hurts to reinforce those lessons) 19. There are other people on this planet that feel the way I do about Sharpie markers and have then in all the colors too. 20. No matter what anyone says to the contrary I am an artistif for no other reason than my heart tells me so. 21. Oh and one more thing.going back to work is hell after a weekend in art heaven!
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to make these discoveries. Ill be back for another journey next year!
